Rhinoplasty surgery is a cosmetic surgery dedicated to the reshaping of the nose. There are many people that inquire about this type of plastic surgery and it has been cited as one of the most common of all procedures. Rhinoplasty is performed for a variety of reasons that range from serious medical issues to pure aesthetics. The reasoning does not change the procedure, however.
There are two forms of technique used in rhinoplasty surgery. Those techniques are the open and closed methods. The open method is utilized for dramatic changes and correction for deviated septums. This version requires the surgeon to cut the columnella. The columnella is a section of skin between the nostrils that covers the septum. Once the columnella is cut the skin of the nose is gently lifted by the cosmetic surgeon so that they can access the nose from the top. In the closed method the columnella is not touched. The external skin is not bothered at all as the doctor will work from inside the nostrils to reshape the nose in accordance with the agreed on form.
Either way rhinoplasty surgery is a serious medical procedure that should be fully understood before anyone actively seeks to have it performed. While the procedure is relatively safe due to extensive practice in this regard by most cosmetic surgeons there still exists the capacity for complications. Typical side effects include swelling, burst blood vessels that leave red blotches, bruising, nasal scarring, and in some instances of gross incompetence the septum may need to be reconstructed.
To alleviate many of the concerns and worries that may come from complications it is important to only have it performed by a qualified and experienced surgeon. The cosmetic surgeons should have roughly five years of practical medical experience coupled with at minimum of two years of surgical experience with rhinoplasty to cut down on the likelihood of complications and revision surgery.
